Introduction
At OS-SCi, open-source technology, inclusivity, and innovation are at the heart of everything we do. The past few months have been packed with expanding our impact, strengthening our community, and enhancing our training programs. From successful introduction events to preparations for our upcoming Lomiri Tech Meeting and the publication of two new books: it’s been a busy, yet deeply inspiring time. Below, we look back on what has been happening.
1. Nextcloud: A Future-Proof Alternative for Organizations
On March 4th, we hosted an introduction evening about our Nextcloud user education at our location on Spoorlaan 400 in Tilburg. During this event, we had the opportunity to show decision-makers and interested parties how Nextcloud can help organizations transition away from closed systems like Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.
Nextcloud doesn’t just offer a secure, self-hosted solution for collaboration and document management; it also opens the door to a world of open-source possibilities. Participants gained insights into how they can benefit from greater control, lower costs, and a more flexible working environment. Curious about the possibilities? Check out the event page.
2. Open Days for UWV Users and Neurodiverse Talent: Inclusion in Practice
On March 17th, we organized an open day specifically for UWV users and neurodiverse talent. The goal? To introduce people to our 100% subsidized training programs, available through various funds and organizations. The day sparked valuable conversations and led to direct enrollments for our courses, which start in mid-April.
Still unsure or want to learn more? On April 1st, we’re repeating this event. Come by, ask your questions, and discover how our training programs can support your professional development. Register for the open day on April 1st.
3. Lomiri Tech Meeting: The Future of the Desktop Focused on Open-Source
Our sights are set on May: on May 16th and 17th, we’re hosting the Lomiri Tech Meeting, a unique event where Computer Science students from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France will come together. The aim? To be immersed in the future of the desktop across all form factors, with a focus on Lomiri as an alternative operating system.
Lomiri, available for Ubuntu, Ubuntu Touch, Debian, Arch, and Rhino Linux, takes center stage at this meeting. We want to strengthen the UBports community and contribute to the further development of this open-source environment. Are you or someone you know interested in the future of open-source desktops? Register for the Lomiri Tech Meeting.
4. Two New Books on Lomiri App Development: Now Available
In addition to our events, we’ve recently published two books on developing apps for the Lomiri Ubuntu Touch platform. These books are now available and ready for orders.
Why order directly from the publisher? It directly supports OS-SCi and ensures we receive higher royalties, which is crucial for our mission. It also highlights how the market works: webshops often take a significant cut. Want to see how much profit they pocket? Browse the available titles at Brave New Books.
The Future: What’s Next?
The past period has shown that OS-SCi is more than just an educational institution—it’s a movement that champions open-source technology, inclusivity, and innovation. Whether it’s introducing new technologies, connecting people, or sharing knowledge through books and events: we continue to grow and improve.
Have questions about our approach, events, or publications? Feel free to reach out. And stay updated: through our website and social media, we regularly share news and opportunities for participation.
In Conclusion
OS-SCi is more than a training provider; it’s a community where everyone is welcome. Whether you’re interested in Nextcloud, Lomiri, or our subsidized training programs: we’re here for you. Together, we’re building a future where open-source is the standard.
